On the eve of Black History Month on January 31, 2022, Ted Lucas, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, Miami-Dade County Vice Chairman Oliver Gilbert and City of Miami Gardens Mayor Rodney Smith were all in attendance at a press conference at Florida Memorial University announcing a Memorandum of Understanding with Lucas’ tech and entrepreneurship-focused non-profit, TechNolij.
The Mission
Ted’s mission is to increase technology access for Black and underserved communities and to create a pipeline of talent and Black-owned startups that will participate in emerging technologies and Web3. Ultimately, the partnership is part of a larger prosperity agenda to close the Black wealth gap and create wealth.
The Agenda
The MOU with FMU is part of a larger agenda that also includes the university’s first innovation company (Infiniblaze) establishing an on-campus presence through the newly create Climate Resiliency Institute. Infiniblaze sets to transform FMU into a living lab where it designs, owns and operates its own innovation infrastructure.
ByteCheck, a cybersecurity company that Ted invests in will also have an on-campus presence at FMU in addition to Isiah Jackson author of “Bitcoin & Black America”.
